Meet the Blogger: Ingrid Opstad

I'm over the moon to interview Ingrid Opstad this Friday and welcome her incredible brand into your lives, assuming you don't already recognise this bloggers name. I've certainly been in awe of her blog That Scandinavian Feeling for a long while now and, I adore everything her brand embodies.

Ingrid lives a life I'm truly envious of through her approach to taking things slow, to her incredibly organised kitchen and, the recipes she often shares on Instagram such as pizza with her beloved fiancé. Her photography skills are something to be proud of too and, her blog will make you want to level up your lifestyle in every way...

What inspired you to start writing?

I started my blog while living and working in London as a graphic designer. I was encouraged by my fiancé who stayed up one night building a blog for me (without any previous web experience) because he could see I needed a change. In the beginning it was a personal blog intended to be a place for me to share interesting design, I guess I was not thinking so much about where I wanted it to go I just wanted to create something for myself.

After moving from London to Milano I started focusing more on my heritage, and wanted it to become an outlet where I could share about all things Scandinavian. Since I am a Norwegian living in Italy and trying to find that Scandinavian feeling I miss from home, I changed the name of my blog to That Scandinavian Feeling.

How would you sum up your brand in a few words?

My brand is built around my knowledge and love for Scandinavia, slow living and hygge: touching upon everything from interiors, lifestyle and travel. I hope to bring a piece of calm to peoples life and help them find that Scandinavian feeling too no matter where in the world they are.

What's one lesson you've learnt from blogging?

The biggest lesson I have learnt from blogging is to keep true to your own style and who you are. Because who you are is what makes your blog unique and stand out from the crowd. The blogging world can feel very overwhelming at times, it is easy to look at others and feel like your content is not good enough...but the best way to grow is by doing so just keep going, stay true to you and remember that good things take time.

What's one aspect of blogging you didn't anticipate?

When I started my blog it was just for myself to have an outlet where I could share what I like, and I guess I didn't know much about blogging or what opportunities it can bring. At the start I was focused more on photos, but through blogging I have found my love for writing - and I even won an Amara award last year as the 'best written blog' which has given me a big boost to keep going.

Do you have any long term plans or ambitions that you can share?

I am currently working on my new Youtube channel which I launched 3 months ago. So although I will still be blogging, I am looking forward to create more video based content too revolving around baking, home, hygge and hopefully more travel too soon. It is a totally new world to me because I have no previous knowledge of video, so I have been spending this lockdown time learning about editing and filming. I am excited to keep evolving my brand further and see what the future holds.

Tell us something about yourself entirely separate from your blog?

I actually used to be scared of dogs when I was younger but after my job in London where there was an office dog I ended up obsessed (although I still remember that nervous moment at my interview when I realised there was a dog haha)...after moving to Italy which is a very dog friendly country we decided to get a dog, and now I havee a cute 3 year old poodle named Bowie in my life. It is funny how things can change like that, I couldn't imagine my life without my little furry hygge friend.
