Valentines Day | A Letter to Love

Dear Love,

I remember a time where you only brought me pain. I recall longing for a life full of you but, I was never sure you'd find me.

Love, our relationship is complicated but I couldn't be without you. You have a place with every family member and friend of mine. You're part of every memory.

You take shape in every emotion; the anger, the sadness and the joy.

Love, you've moulded me completely.

Lately you're the reason I radiate, the reason I want to wake up every morning and sometimes why I don't.  Love means feeling heavy-hearted, sometimes troubled and tired. Love means feeling alive, having a something to look forward to and a reason to smile.

Several years ago now I thought love was only meant to hurt. Love was always unrequited and suffering was inevitable (maybe I enjoyed reading Miss Havisham too much in school and took her experience too literally). I was wrong of course and I found a boy who turned things around. We met and he shown. Full of youth, knowledge and laughter, I knew he would be important to me. Years later, here we are - Just us and you, love.

Love, you require constant attention. Once we have you we can't simply be content. If only life were that simple. You're exactly why we bicker with one another and forgive each other. You're why we move and grow together, the reason we continue making small commitments to each other, and the reason we stay loyal. The reason our friendships last a lifetime and the reason our families remain supportive.

Individually you've allowed me to grow. You've encouraged me to feel more confident and to find friendship with myself. Thanks to you I'm kinder than ever and open to others. I'm able to speak freely and with a positive energy about the future. You're undoubtedly why I'm here and happy.

Love, you're ever evolving. I know that just because I have you now doesn't mean I won't lose you again.

Thank you for taking back the pain and offering me hope, even if it's fleeting.
