Where to Brunch in Plymouth | The Early Bird

Have you visited this gorgeously green brunch spot yet?!

When the Early Bird opened last Summer I was so incredibly excited to visit often ~ Little did I know I'd be moving away from Mutley in which this brunch spot is located at the heart.

Open 7:30am until 16:30pm the independent family run business has become quite the Instagram sensation, with plenty of loyal customers posing in front of the infamous forest like wall - enough to make any wannabe influencer want to pay a visit. I mean, I'm certainly dying to get all of my friends around the table for a photo.

Now, let's talk about the good stuff...the food! Early Bird have an open kitchen set up which I think is particularly special, creating refreshing brunch recipes including breaded chicken and maple syrup pancakes (YUM), the classic fry up and veggie versions of course alongside various surprising offerings such as Bunny Chow and Tartines or open sandwiches. Looking for a hearty breakfast on this gloomy January day however, I chose the potato nesti with my usual cappuccino order.

The potato nesti includes a potato rosti tower, one fried egg, plenty of streaky bacon, hollandaise sauce and pea shoots to garnish. This dish was refreshingly comforting and the perfect start to a hectic day. The crispy bacon and potato rosti work nicely together and the hollandaise sauce adds a light touch, lifting the entire dish.

In addition Early bird sell freshly made sourdough bread and a variety of cakes (all delicious I'm sure). In particular I remember that the Victoria Sponge cake I tried on my last visit was lighter than air.

The service at the Early Bird is something to be praised too. The team are all vibrant, friendly and observant of their customers. Given that this brunch hot spot can get pretty busy, the team of chefs and staff seem to cope well under pressure and enjoy working together to create a wide range of flavoursome dishes.

Overall, It's been so incredibly exciting to watch this independent grow on social media over the past few months and I'm always looking forward to returning. There's so much of their menu that I still want to try and so many relatives I know would enjoy the experience too.

The Early Bird is exactly what the community of students and permanent residents surrounding Mutley needed that's for certain! There's truly no competition in my eyes.

It's going to be a big year for this bird I guarantee.

Next time I'm getting the pancakes!
